Botrops asper - Fer de lance (Terciopelo)
It is a pitviper snake widespread in Central america along both slopes. This species is very commom in agricultural areas, where crops attracts rodents but also around human settlements, thus increasing the chances of snakebite incidents. When further provoked, these snakes tend to strike at source of the threat. Its strong venom, and large venom glands make this an extremmely dangerous snake, and it is a responsible for 90% of the snike bite incidents in Central america, many of which result in serious injury or, sometimes, death. Agalychnis spurreli - Orange side Glinding Leaf Frog
Is an elusive inhabitant of lowlands forest canopies, it frequently escapes detection for long periods of time, but heavy nocturnal rains sometimes trigger breeding activity in which agregations of hundred of individuals may congregate around the temporal pools that are used for breeding. Sierpe de Osa is one of the places where you can see this explosive breeding. |
